Dental software used to be judged mainly on whether it could keep an agenda and store patient details. As digital systems become more central to healthcare delivery, expectations around reliability, security, interoperability and data quality naturally rise.
What homologation could change
RIZIV's agreement signals an intention to define quality criteria for professional software. It does not mean every cloud dental software product is already approved, and it does not automatically make a platform compliant with eAttest, eFact or future requirements. Clinics should wait for the official criteria and verify exactly which functions or software categories fall under the homologation framework.
What clinics should evaluate today
Even before the final rules are published, practices can evaluate dental software more professionally. Ask where data is hosted, how users are authenticated, whether permissions are role-based, how backups and incident handling work, and whether the provider can document its data-processing responsibilities. Usability matters, but healthcare software also needs operational discipline.
- Ask vendors for security, privacy and data-hosting documentation.
- Do not assume that 'cloud-based' means 'homologated' or approved for regulated billing.
- Prefer software with clear roles, auditability and structured operational workflows.
